Insulating Your Pole Barn - What You Need To Know...
If you are building or have built a pole barn you should consider investing in installing some insulation. Pole Barn Insulation can be installed relatively easy and for a minimum cost.
With insulation installed in the pole barn the temperature inside will be reduced dramatically. If you plan to use your pole barn to house animals then you will definitely want to install some insulation.
Another reason to install pole barn insulation is to reduce moisture. Condensation will occur on the metal roof and siding which will drip on anything stored inside as well as any of the wood used to construct the structure itself. This can cause serious damage to your belongings and can lead to rot and termites on the wood.

There are different types of material used for pole barn insulation. One of the more popular types is called a fiberglass blanket insulation. This insulation is commonly covered in a vinyl bag like fashion, which makes it idea to stand up against the effects of moisture. This type of insulation will cost around $0.50 a square foot. Another type is fiberglass board insulation, this insulation is very effective but requires the installation of a moisture barrier prior to install. This installation comes in a board form much like a piece of plywood and can be cut to fit. It is a little more expensive than the blanket insulation, costing around $0.90 per square foot. Spray foam insulation is a third type which is basically sprayed onto the surface using a similar technique that is used when spraying paint. It is applied in a liquid form and as it dries it expands to fill every crack and void of the surface it is applied to.This type of pole barn insulation is more expensive, about $1.50 per square foot, than the others but is ideal to use in existing pole barns when trying to retrofit with insulation. No matter which type of insulation you choose to install in your pole barn you will quickly notice the benefits of having done so. The blanket and board type would be the best choice if you plan on doing the installing yourself since the spray foam requires special equipment for it to be installed. Also be sure if you are installing the insulation yourself to follow the manufacturer's recommendations on how it is to be installed and wear the required protection, such as gloves and goggles for example.
